The Summer Holidays end and suddenly you find yourself busy packing the kids bags. In go the books, pens and pencils then finally you remember ‘Argh, shoes!’ With so many school shoes on the market it is hard to know what to look for. The most important factor for children’s school shoes is that they fit correctly. This usually means getting your children fitted for shoes by a trained sales assistant.
Choosing the right shoe for your baby or toddler can be difficult and confusing. Concerns range from curly toes, flat feet, toe walking or pigeon toes. Our podiatrist are trained to identify the likely course or diagnosis and to treat if necessary. Diagnosis can be as simple as taking a history of birth patterns, family history or simply watching your child play with our toys and wonder around the clinic at their own pace. The assessment is pain free and the child often doesn’t even know we are looking at them.
Plantar Fasciitis (heel pain) is a common complaint seen within the clinic. Most cases are a result of over use of the muscle band or a direct trauma to the foot. A common presentation of plantar fasciitis is pain that has been present in the heel or medial longidutinal arch ranging from a week up to 2 years in untreated patients. The plantar fascia muscle can become inflamed & thickened if you do not seek treatment as early as possible. The healing success rate is much greater in acute cases than in chronic cases.
